Some Fantasy Books That Are Worth Your While
Reading is one of my favourite things to do. It takes you away from reality for some time and it can be refreshing. There are stories that suit the tastes of many people, some that you certainly must try.
Here are some books that you cannot miss out on:
1.
Serpent & Dove by Shelby Mahurin.
The second and last book of the series just came out, so it is evidently a flawless time for you to pick it up.
Synopsis:
Bound as one to love, honor, or burn.
Two years ago, Louise le Blanc fled her coven and took shelter in the city of Cesarine, forsaking all magic and living off whatever she could steal. There, witches like Lou are hunted. They are feared. And they are burned.
Sworn to the Church as a Chasseur, Reid Diggory has lived his life by one principle: thou shalt not suffer a witch to live. His path was never meant to cross with Lou’s, but a wicked stunt forces them into an impossible union — holy matrimony.
The war between witches and Church is an ancient one, and Lou’s most dangerous enemies bring a fate worse than fire. Unable to ignore her growing feelings, yet powerless to change what she is, a choice must be made.
And love makes fools of us all.
My review:
You should definitely pick this up. It is an excellent debut, and the type of fantasy fiction I enjoy. The romance of a witch and a witch hunter, sprinkled with heat, bitterness, love and humour. There was plenty of positive reviews reaching out for me to read this book, and they did not lie. Though it took some time for me to drown in the contents of the story, I consider the plot to be relatively well-shaped. It’s so ridiculous that it stood out. Loved it.
2.
To Kill A Kingdom by Alexandra Christo
One of my most adored books in the world. Sharing this to everyone in the world might be a job I am willing to take on.
Synopsis:
Princess Lira is siren royalty and the most lethal of them all. With the hearts of seventeen princes in her collection, she is revered across the sea. Until a twist of fate forces her to kill one of her own. To punish her daughter, the Sea Queen transforms Lira into the one thing they loathe most — a human. Robbed of her song, Lira has until the winter solstice to deliver Prince Elian’s heart to the Sea Queen or remain a human forever.
The ocean is the only place Prince Elian calls home, even though he is heir to the most powerful kingdom in the world. Hunting sirens is more than an unsavory hobby — it’s his calling. When he rescues a drowning woman in the ocean, she’s more than what she appears. She promises to help him find the key to destroying all of sirenkind for good — But can he trust her? And just how many deals will Elian have to barter to eliminate mankind’s greatest enemy?
My review:
Five stars, no hesitation. I love everything about it. The beginning already hooked me in like a rod made for the sea, and the plot had me engrossed and relentlessly thinking. The writing style is extraordinary, and not to mention the characters. The character development, the actions and feelings are all flawless and full of details that made this story more like a movie than anything.
I totally recommend this book, 100%. If you enjoy a land of fantasy, romance and sirens, I cannot select a better book.
3.
The Bargainer Series by Laura Thalassa
Sirens. They appear in the books I love the most.
There is a forth book in this series, The Emperor of Evening Stars and I believe it to have caught my attention more than A Strange Hymn. Overall, though, I was engrossed when reading the series. I drowned in every word, and was entertained.
Synopsis (for the first book):
Callypso Lillis is a siren with a very big problem, one that stretches up her arm and far into her past. For the last seven years she’s been collecting a bracelet of black beads up her wrist, magical IOUs for favors she’s received. Only death or repayment will fulfill the obligations. Only then will the beads disappear.
Everyone knows that if you need a favor, you go to the Bargainer to make it happen. He’s a man who can get you anything you want… at a price. And everyone knows that sooner or later he always collects.
But for one of his clients, he’s never asked for repayment. Not until now. When Callie finds the fae king of the night in her room, a grin on his lips and a twinkle in his eye, she knows things are about to change. At first it’s just a chaste kiss — a single bead’s worth — and a promise for more.
For the Bargainer, it’s more than just a matter of rekindling an old romance. Something is happening in the Otherworld. Fae warriors are going missing one by one. Only the women are returned, each in a glass casket, a child clutched to their breast. And then there are the whispers among the slaves, whispers of an evil that’s been awoken.
If the Bargainer has any hope to save his people, he’ll need the help of the siren he spurned long ago. Only, his foe has a taste for exotic creatures, and Callie just happens to be one.
My review:
The chemistry of characters in this story is breathtaking. Utterly beautiful. It caught my attention from the very first page, and never dropped it.
The relationship development trails a steady path, and the romance between the two main characters is greatly written. I adore the peek into the past in most of the chapters. There are more outstanding characters in the book that deserve as much credit as the protagonist for making Rhapsodic a story worth remembering.
There are more, and I love recommending books as much as receiving the recommendation.
They are truly amazing. Read them, and you might not be able to put the story down.
