3 Lessons I Learned During My First Retail Job
Working part-time in retail as a student
After graduating from secondary school, I needed a job that required little experience and would offer me enough money during the holiday break. Countless other students followed in the same footsteps, some opting for retail and others for the food and beverage industry.
I've worked four different jobs in both industries for the last three months. I planned to experience. I've studied my entire life, and workplaces function differently from schools. I switched when I'd learnt enough from these part-time jobs, so my stay lasted from four measly days to a month.
Three of the four were retail, and these are the five main lessons I learnt from my experiences:
The level of Enjoyment Depends Heavily on the Environment
During my month-long stay, I received a ridiculous number of complaints from strangers in my workplace moaning about their dissatisfaction — their children plan to spend Christmas with them, but there's not enough man force for them to be absent from work. They want to celebrate New Year's with family, but workplace responsibilities come first.
Everyone was so unhappy., but they stayed because they were familiar with it…
